"Volunteering is an act of heroism on a grand scale. And it matters profoundly. It does more than help people beat the odds; it changes the odds.” - President Bill Clinton
There are many different ways to support The Dwelling Place through volunteerism. We are a small agency in terms of staff size but we accomplish a great deal with 20 to 25 families per year. Our work is possible because individuals give of their time and talents to assist us with the families, in the office, on a fundraising event, and more.
Tutoring
Working one-on-one with children in elementary, middle, or high school on specific subjects.
Child Care
Assisting with child care on the 1st Mondays of each month during Life Skills Classes for parents from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m..
Events
Assisting with major fundraising efforts - Carnival of Chocolates held in the Spring.
Make a House a Home Project
The “Make a House a Home Project” allows groups to completely furnish an apartment. This includes all furniture, decorations, kitchenware, linens, bedding, and more. There is usually a one-month time frame for gathering everything that is needed and then “decorating” an apartment for a new family.
Mailings
Handling bulk mailings, such as quarterly newsletters, by folding, tabbing, labeling, etc. and other projects.
